Music is My Boyfriend

New Order - MovementI was reading a blog post about the relationship designers have with music on Design Observer. Adrian Shaughnessy writes: “I’ve never worked in a design studio where music wasn’t being played pretty much constantly… What is it with graphic designers and music?” Adrian has a good point. The image of a room full of designers with headphones on while staring at the computer screen is almost becoming cliché.

iPhoneWell, we all knew the bomb would drop sooner or later. I just don’t think any of us realized how big a bombshell it would be or how soon it would drop! Yesterday, Steve Jobs announced an 8GB iPhone with a 2-year wireless plan retailing for $200.00 less than the original iPhone. (Incidentally, if you were a front-of-the-queue iPhone adopter, your phone isn’t even 100 days old yet!)

I Want My Moleskine

Moleskine from Wikipedia.org A lot of my classmates in art school and even a couple of co-workers not only prefer Moleskine notebooks, but are Moleskine enthusiasts. Apparently they are not the only ones. I found the story of a travelling Moleskine project where notebooks are sent to various places around the world and anonymous individuals fill their pages. The pages are then scanned and posted on the blog. Also Paul Saffo, a fellow enthusiast, collaborated with Steve Derricott to fashion a custom leather Moleskine cover. P.S. If you’re wondering how to pronounce the word ‘Moleskine’, check out the Wikipedia entry.

Also, check out the travel blog and results of the custom cover here:

Dumb Network; from Dumblaws.comDid you know that in San Diego, you could be fined $250 for keeping your Christmas Light up past February 2nd or that detonating a nuclear device within the Chico city limits results in a $500 fine? That is but two of the countless dumb laws still on the books in cities today around the world. Just head on over to http://www.dumblaws.com/ and look up your State, City, or Country and you’ll be amused and amazed at some of the crazy laws they have out there.

Cory Serin, courtesy of iamfacingforeclosure.comCorey Serin is a 24-year-old California suburbanite who has managed to run up a dept of nearly $200,000 in credit debt in addition to his failed financial exhibitionism in the real estate market where he bought 8 homes intended to be resold for profit.

So what does he do? What else? He starts a blog.

His website iamfacingforeclosure.com launched last year wherein he shares his financial troubles and then some. He posts his bank statements, financial spreadsheets and is blatantly honest over his cheating on mortgage application as well as his outright refusal to get a job: forcing his wife to clean homes to pay for food and rent.

Introducing Steven Rosenhaus

Deflated Stressball Steven Rosenhaus is an Associate Producer here at Tuesday Creative. In December he acquired a stressball that originally looked a lot like a miniature basketball. He was walking, talking, and squeezing around the office. Unfortunately in late January the stressball gave out. Now is this simply a result of cheap manufacturing or does Steve really just need a vacation?

Settling In…

Hello VOXers. We’re a design studio in North Hollywood, right on the corner of Lankershim and Magnolia (you know the one – where Julia Roberts got clocked taking an illegal left in Erin Brockovitch). We’ve been evaluating new blogging packages for internal company collaboration. VOX has such a great feel to it that we decided to experiment a bit by creating an open forum for both our employees and our friends to interact, collaborate and basically just have a little fun!

Tuesday Creative, Suite 800, 5200 Lankershim Blvd

We’re approaching our two month anniversary in our new studio on the eighth floor of the Academy building. We wanted a big, open production floor so we removed almost all the walls and raised the ceiling to nearly the height of the helipad on the roof (we hope to someday take advantage of that, too!). We have a really nice view of the foothills, and a clear line of sight to the offices of two of our clients, Disney and NBC Universal.

Nice to meet you all. We’re looking forward to getting to know our fellow VOX-enabled design professionals and enthusiasts in the coming months. Feel free to get in touch with us if you want to chat, or have lunch in NoHo.
