Duck from Canstruction Calling Andy Warhol: your tomato soup can has met its match.

Canstruction, a national charity that combines ‘the competitive spirit of a design competition with a unique way to feed hungry people,’ constructs curiously amusing sculptures out of everyday shopping sundries.

The Utika family of Kodaira City, courtesy of Time.comOne way to spend time with your family is at the dinner table. For most, this tradition spans across countries outside the U.S. Through documentary photography, the book ‘Hungry Planet,’ catalogs what families around the world eat in one week. Captions tell you where the family is located, the dollar amount on what they spend for one week’s worth of food, and what their favorite foods are. The results give you fascinating revelations on the global economy and insight on global family life.

Pinkberry AKA The Starbucks of 2007

Pink Berry, courtesy of pinkberry.com I hope I don’t come across as a hater, but I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by the latest yogurt store craze that has hit Los Angeles. The most well loved and known Pinkberry within the last two years has sprouted in a very Starbucks like fashion. Before long the original West Hollywood store had replicated 13 sister stores. Don’t get me wrong. I like what they offer. They don’t nickname it ‘crackberry’ for nothing. But of course some other geniuses decided to cash in by opening up other yogurt stores imitating Pinkberry. I can’t remember specific names, but I know I’m seeing them everywhere. And I’ve been thinking more about this because it’s been really warm the last couple of days. Summer is here and I’ll be thinking of the not so cheap berry gouging my wallet. All I would need now, is an American Apparel store to open next to the Pinkberry on Melrose and I’ll be set for LA living. By the way, if you don’t already know, Starbucks is so last decade.

Maxfli FireThe controversy of the day (or yesterday, more specifically) is that a Maxfli golf ball ad was banned because it shows John Daly holding a beer. This don’t make no sense considering there are countless TV ads that exclusively promote beer and at least a few beer ads are about golf. Also, every golfer knows that beer is served on the golf course so John Daly isn’t doing anything illicit. Check out the ad on YouTube, but be warned—it’s horrible.

Fuel For Thought

AmmoMy mom is not the “Betty Crocker” type. Growing up I didn’t rush home after school to the aroma of delicious home-cooked dinner. In my house it was more like which take-away menu were we in the mood for. So, in my adult life, more often than not, I go out to eat instead of cook at home. Thankfully, I live in a city that is full of incredible restaurants, in every variety and cuisine, so I am never without a ton of choices. And while I do like to try different ones as much as possible, there are a few restaurants in this city that I cannot go a week without frequenting. Ammo is at the top of that list.
