Apple’s Newton

In the mad rush of getting the much heralded iPhone shipped out to the clamoring masses, it appears that Apple developers were pulled off a pre-existing project to instead focus on their sure-fire hit. Now that the iPhone’s success is soaring, it seems that development has apparently picked back up on what is to be (reportedly) a reincarnation of Apple’s mid 90’s “Newton.”
This modern incarnation of the Apple PDA is rumored to be a touch sensitive sub-notebook and will run on OS X Leopard, as well as feature drag and drop capabilities and a 720×480 resolution screen that will (most likely) take up most of the surface area. Sounds a lot like the iPhone and iTouch, eh? Well, really, why mess with a winning formula?
Steve Jobs’ Macworld keynote is coming up in January, so if indeed Apple’s next generation PDA is slated for release within the foreseeable future, perhaps we can all expect a little announcement …
