Czech RepublicAs a designer it’s not everyday that you get to design something cool or even very important in the grand scale of things. So just imagine what it would be like to have the responsibility of branding an entire country on your shoulders. Where would you even begin?

Out of 400 logo entries in 2006, Side2 Studio’s colorfully bright logo was chosen as the winner for the Czech Republic. The logo features talk bubbles above the words ‘Czech Republic’ in san-serif type. In the bubbles, you can input messages while having the ability to point at whatever the viewer needs to look at. It’s a very versatile logo with endless possibilities.

Of course the logo has been subject to criticism, but fortunately Side2 Studio had the satisfaction of being awarded the Czech Grand Design Award in 2006. The award is given by the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic consisting of 50 independent professionals, theorists, and journalists—but no designers. What does that say about the logo? Side2 Studio believes that it reflects wider public approval and not approval just from the design world.

Judge for yourself.
