6 of the Lamest Social Networking Sites

Don’t you just love it when a writer gets roasted for possessing a sense of humor? Really, what better proof is there that the majority of people out there really do need to take a nice seaside holiday and C-H-I-L-L. (Hey, that includes yours truly!) Originally I’d simply wanted to highlight Wired online author Matthew Honan’s prickly poke at the outer reaches of Social Networkdom, but the highly affronted responses to said article now seem far more blogworthy.
Advocates of social network sites such as Trek Passions (geared for those “looking for like-minded friends, someone fun to attend a Sci Fi Convention with or maybe something more…”) and Cyberbullying (a place to “address this epidemic of online cruelty… because we all need to take a stand …”) have failed to see the humor in Honan’s post, which uses such mordant monikers as “pussies,” “humorless atheists” and “overzealous warriors of the Klingon Empire.” Honan’s intent with his brief article was to bring attention to the deluge of social networking sites across the Internet and, more to the point, the invitations to join them which now spam inboxes everywhere.
But apparently, Honan’s singling out of trekkies, cat lovers and ‘cyber abuse’ victims was an ignorant act of hostility. Or at least trekkies, cat lovers and cyber abuse victims took it that way, instead of the way it was meant to be taken: with a grain of salt and tongue firmly planted in cheek.
