Einstein George Bernard Shaw once said that common sense is instinct, and enough of it is genius—a truth that studygs.net certainly attests to with 8 suggestions for brilliant thinking that are, in essence, potent doses of common sense. So while not everyone can be a genius like Thomas Edison or Albert Einstein (or Seth McFarlane, yes, he IS a genius I don’t care what you think!) according to studygs.net, everyone can learn to think like a genius.

The trace() Statement – Respect, Responsibility and Solutions

Part 1 - Respect.

The trace() statement is the most valuable of all the global functions in Actionscript. Period.

The trace() function in Actionscript sends text messages to a console. That’s all it does. Really. And it’s still the most valuable tool in the Actionscript toolbox. Here’s why:

TeacherTube As you’ve certainly deduced by its cleverly analogous title, TeacherTube is an online community designed for teachers and students to share instructional educational videos focused for teachers and students alike. Their motto is “teach the world,” and this singularly intriguing site certainly has done just that in its brief four-month lifetime, and has fostered a very vibrant international community.

UHP It’s fun living in the future, eh? The age-old adage of ‘what they can’t do these days’ has never been more appropriate—a quick perusal of places like digg and boing-boing attest to the fact that the boundaries of design and technology are indeed truly limitless.

Miro Internet TV, that is.

And now we are all one step closer to understanding the massive potential of Internet TV thanks Miro video player. Reincarnated as a 1.0 product from its days as an Internet TV player called “Democracy,” Miro’s name and design may have changed but it has sacrificed none of the features that made it popular. Thanks to an open video player called “VLC,” it can play any kind of video format—even YouTube videos and HD content. (As a matter of fact, Miro has access to more HD content than any other source!)

Talkin’ 2.0

Chat MakerChat Maker brings web 2.0 technology to the rather neglected chat room arena. (Hello, haven’t chat roomers ever heard of AIM?) Created by AJAX, it is an incredibly simple client that allows you to create a private chat room in five seconds flat with a simple click of a button which is a terribly cliché, I know, but in this instance it just happens to be true. Chat Maker is intended for communication with people who don’t have instant messaging clients, but it yields some interesting possibilities for the workplace too. If you don’t want to hassle with calling a meeting, you can pull your peeps into a chat room for a quick tête-à-tête. Sure it doesn’t have the pizzazz of IM avatars or sound effects or video cams and you can’t import your contact lists…but most of the intended beneficiaries of Chat Maker probably think AJAX is just a cleaning agent anyway so, no harm no foul.

I’d Rather Be Called a Nerd

Urban DictionaryMost people interchange the words ‘nerd’ and ‘geek’ as often as they interchange words like ‘dinner’ and ‘supper’ or ‘i.e.’ and ‘e.g.’— each of which are very different and really not interchangeable at all.So to end the dispute, I consulted the handy-dandy bible of slang: urbandictionary.com. (I want to personally thank the person who invented this site because I can use it in situations like this, heh.)

SagmeisterStefan Sagmeister, the popular Austrian born New York based graphic designer and typographer best known for his album cover designs, recently unveiled his new exhibition “Things I’ve Learned In My Life So Far.” It’s a global project, with installations in places like Glasgow, Lisbon and Belgrade featuring uniquely presented billboards boasting words of wisdom from the Sagmeister himself. Statements like “everyone always thinks they are right,” “looking good limits my life,” “complaining is silly,” and “money does not make me happy.” Each word with its own billboard, each board placed in various spots around the cities.

A Brief Hippie Moment

Hippie Dude Ah, the Creative Process. The how, what, where and why’s of creation. Just the thought of it is enough to drum up furrowed brows and scratching heads from Creatives everywhere. We’re baffled by it because it is a difficult thing to pin down our own creative processes and define the actions we take when we create.
